PNB to update debit card charges on declined transactions due to insufficient balance at PoS machines, eComm transactions

According to the PNB website, starting next month, the bank will change its debit card charges for decline in transactions due to insufficient balance at a PoS machine and eComm transactions.

Punjab National Bank (PNB) will update its charges on debit cards for declined transactions due to insufficient balance at PoS machine, eComm transactions from December 6, 2023, according to the PNB website.

As per the website, “Dear Customer, Bank is in process of implementing the changes w.e.f 6-12-23 - Bank will start levying charges on declined Transactions due to insufficient balance at PoS machine and eComm Transactions (Domestic/International) done through Debit Card.”

PNB hikes FD interest rates on select tenures by up to 50 bps; these investors can earn 8.05%


The bank as of now charges Rs 15 for transaction declined due to insufficient balance for debit cards as per website. The rates were updated as on June 5, 2023.

The issuance and annual charges on debit cards & pre-paid cards are as follows:

Charges after free transactions
After 5 transactions per month, PNB will charge Rs 10 plus GST taxes each transaction at its own ATMs located in metro and non-metro areas.

Charges after free transactions other bank’s ATMs
PNB would charge Rs 21/- + relevant taxes every transaction after three transactions per month. Non-financial transactions will be charged Rs 9 plus applicable taxes after the free transaction limit has been reached in Metro cities.

Transactions declined at other bank ATMs anywhere in the world or at a merchant outlet / website outside India due to insufficient funds will be charged at Rs. 25 + applicable taxes per transaction.
