PNB set to close these accounts by Nov 10

Punjab National Bank (PNB) has issued a notice for PNB account holders whose bank accounts have had no customer-induced operations for more than three years and have a zero balance. The bank has decided to close such accounts to prevent their misuse and reduce the risks associated with keeping them inactive, PNB said in a statement dated October 26, 2026 which is also available on its X (formerly Twitter) timeline.

The public sector bank says that such customers need to complete their Know Your Customer (KYC) process by November 10, 2026.

Which PNB accounts will be closed?

PNB says that it will close accounts that have not recorded any transaction/operation by a customer in the last three years as on September 30, 2026, and have no balance amount. The customers of such accounts should visit their PNB branch, complete Know Your Customer (KYC) and get their accounts reactivated

Reactivation must be completed by November 10, 2026, the bank says.

Account holders seeking to retain these accounts will have to reactivate the account prior to the cut off date so that their accounts do not get closed, and they can continue availing PNB banking services.

In another tweet on X, PNB said that KYC updation is mandatory for all customers as per RBI guidelines.

For accounts whose KYC updation is due until September 30, 2026, the bank has asked the customers to get it done by October 31, 2026.

Customers can update their KYC via the PNB ONE app, IBS, registered email ID, post, WhatsApp, SMS, via the bank's corporate website, and can even get updated from any PNB branch in person.

PNB has also warned that if KYC is not updated by the due date, operations of the accounts may be restricted.
