While petrol prices increased by up to Rs 3.3/litre, the hike in CNG prices was Rs 2 each in Delhi and Mumbai.
The rising petrol prices in all four metro cities and the increase in CNG costs in Delhi and Mumbai could hit your wallet hard, costing anywhere from a few hundred to a few thousand rupees, if you drive 1,000 kilometre or more each month. Petrol prices have gone by up by Rs 3.3/litre, while CNG prices have jumped by Rs 2 in both Delhi and Mumbai. Depending on the mileage of your car and distance you travel daily to work, the additional fuel expense might really strain your budget.

In this report, we’ll take a look at the new petrol and CNG prices; compare the costs of petrol and CNG (before and after the price hike) for a 1,000 km commute by a car, and see how much CNG vehicles can save compared to petrol cars over the same distance (1,000 km) .

Petrol price changes in metropolitical cities (w.e.f May 15, 2026)


The biggest price rise has been in Kolkata, where the petrol price increased by Rs 3.3 to Rs 108.7 per litre, the lowest hike is in Chennai, where petrol is selling at Rs 103.7 after a Rs 2.8 increase.

As far as CNG prices are concerned, Mahanagar Gas Limited increased the CNG price by Rs 2 each in Mumbai and Delhi. The rates are unchanged in Kolkata and Chennai.
