OneTag for FASTag users: What’ll happen to wallet?

FASTag users will soon be able to switch their issuer bank without closing their existing NETC (National Electronic Toll Collection) FASTag or getting a new physical tag. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has launched ‘OneTag’, a new NETC FASTag portability solution that will allow users to change their issuer bank while continuing to use the FASTag already attached to their vehicle. But what will happen to their existing FASTag wallet? Do they need a fresh Know Your Customer (KYC) verification for OneTag?

How a user can access OneTag

The OneTag service can be availed through NHAI’s Rajmargyatra mobile app.

The existing issuer bank will handle customer verification and manage the previous wallet, refunds, pending transactions and related matters, while the selected issuer bank will complete the onboarding and provide services following successful portability.

The app will guide users through the portability process, including eligibility checks, secure verification, customer consent, selection of the preferred issuer bank and subsequent onboarding.

Is fresh KYC required for OneTag?

Yes, a fresh KYC is required for OneTag while switching the issuer bank. The Rajmargyatra app guides users through the FASTag portability process, as per a release from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

FASTag users can login to the App and enter their vehicle registration number to check eligibility.

The user will receive a verification six-digit Mobile Verification Code (MVC) from the current issuer bank.

Following authorisation, the user will be required to select a new issuer, complete customer verification (KYC) and wallet onboarding with the new issuer to complete the portability process.

Following successful portability, the existing FASTag ID linked to vehicle registration number will remain unchanged, allowing users to continue using the same physical tag with a different issuer bank.

What will happen to your existing FASTag wallet?

After portability is completed, the previous issuer will close the existing FASTag wallet and refund the available balance, post applicable adjustments. Also, interoperable FASTag has a cooling period of six months before it can be ported again.
