UIDAI onboards 300 entities to ease UID verification

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has onboarded 300 Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) since the app's launch in January 2026. The move is expected to expand the use of Aadhaar-based offline verification across several sectors, including hotels, healthcare, education, hospitality, events and the gig economy.

With more organisations joining the offline verification network, Aadhaar holders may find it easier to complete identity checks without having to submit physical copies of their Aadhaar cards. The system is designed to allow verification with the individual's consent while limiting the sharing of personal information.

How will the UIDAI’s initiative help users?

This will help people who avail UIDAI services across sectors ranging from hotels, hospitality, healthcare, education, events, gig economy, and consumer facing players.

This milestone marks a major advancement in enabling secure, consent-based, and paperless verification through Aadhaar offline verification mechanism -- empowering both service providers and residents, alike.

What is Aadhaar offline verification?

Aadhaar offline verification allows an individual to carry out identity verification and KYC processes locally, without connecting to the Central Identities Data Repository of the UIDAI.

Under this mechanism, residents can share digitally verifiable Aadhaar information with an organisation after giving their consent. The organisation can verify information without collecting or storing the Aadhaar number.

Aadhaar app records nearly 7.5 crore downloads

The Aadhaar App has recorded nearly 7.5 crore downloads so far, indicating growing interest among residents in accessing Aadhaar-related services through their smartphones.

Several services that earlier required a visit to an Aadhaar centre can now be accessed through the app. According to the UIDAI, the app has facilitated more than 86 lakh mobile number updates, 22.16 lakh address updates and 40.25 lakh email updates.

Aadhaar biometric lock and unlock transactions cross 4.6 crore

The app has also seen considerable use of its security features. The UIDAI reported 4.6 crore biometric lock and unlock transactions through the Aadhaar App.

The biometric locking facility allows Aadhaar holders to prevent the use of their fingerprints, iris and face authentication whenever they choose. They can unlock biometrics when they need to use an authentication service and lock them again afterwards.

The app has also recorded 3.61 lakh Aadhaar lock and unlock transactions. This facility gives residents another way to control the use of their Aadhaar credentials.
