New EPFO Rule: Transgender ID card issued from national portal now accepted for name, gender changes in EPF records
The Employees Provident Fund Organisation has eased the process for transgender members to update their records. A transgender identity certificate from the national portal is now a valid document for changing name and gender in EPF accounts.

As per an EPFO circular issued recently, “This is to inform that the competent authority has decided to accept a transgender identity certificate/card issued through the national portal for transgender persons
https://transgender.dosje.gov.in/ as a valid proof for effecting a change in name and gender in the records of EPFO.”
“Accordingly, the said document shall be deemed to have included in the list of acceptable documents available as Annexure II to the circular dated 16/01/2025 on the simplification of the joint declaration process,” the circular said.

Members whose UAN was generated before October 1, 2017, but whose name, the date of birth, gender, and Aadhaar are validated
Members whose UAN is not Aadhaar-validated, those without a UAN, or cases involving deceased members
The level of verification and approval required depends on which category a member falls into.
Documents can be submitted by the member through Digilocker wherever feasible else uploaded as a single PDF.
