Minimum wage revision from April 1, 2026: Haryana, Uttar Pradesh revise rates for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers

Major states such as Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have revised minimum wage rates effective April 1, 2026, impacting lakhs of workers across skills. While Haryana has issued fresh minimum wage levels based on skill categories, Uttar Pradesh has increased interim wages by about 21% across unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled worker groups.

As per the notification of the Haryana government, minimum wages have been fixed based on skill levels. The new monthly and daily wage rates are as follows:

Under the revised wage structure, unskilled workers in Haryana will receive a minimum wage of Rs 15,220.71/month. For semi-skilled workers, the minimum wage has been set at Rs 16,780.74 per month. Skilled workers will get at least Rs 18,500.81 per month.

Interim minimum wages in Uttar Pradesh have been revised with an increase of up to 21% for workers in Gautam Budh Nagar and Ghaziabad districts. For unskilled workers in these two districts, the wage for unskilled workers has been raised from Rs 11,313 to Rs 13,690, reflecting a 21.01% increase. Similarly, semi-skilled workers will see their wages rise from Rs 12,445 to Rs 15,059, marking a 21% increase. For skilled workers, the revised wage has been increased from Rs13,940 to Rs 16,868, also showing a 21% increase.

According to a notification, unskilled workers in Uttar Pradesh are entitled to a minimum of Rs 11,313.65 per month, or a daily wage of Rs 435.14. Similarly, for semi-skilled workers, the minimum monthly wage has been fixed at Rs 12,446 and the daily wage at Rs 478.69. For skilled workers, the current minimum monthly wage is Rs 13,940.37 and the daily wage is Rs 536.16.

The rules under the new labour codes are currently under the process of implementation, the release said.

The notification clearly states that there will be no difference between wages paid to men and women workers. Employers must ensure equal payment for similar categories of work requiring the same skills and experience.

The state government has addressed false claims being widely circulated on social media that the minimum wage in the state has been fixed at Rs 20,000 per month. The government said that it had made no such announcements.
