Many Paytm FASTag users facing issues closing account, complain on social media; are you able to close your Paytm FASTag?

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has recommended Paytm FASTag customers to obtain a new FASTag issued by another authorised issuer before March 15, 2024. However, many Paytm FASTag customers are not able to fully close or deactivate their Paytm FASTag accounts. Some Paytm FASTag users who have been facing difficulty closing their accounts have taken to social media to complain.

How to close Paytm FASTag via Paytm App

Step 1: Login to your Paytm account
Step 2: Search (it is on the top) for ‘FASTag’
Step 3: Select ‘Manage FASTag’ (find it is in the ‘Services’ section)

Step 4: Select the FASTag which you wish to deactivate
Step 5: Click on close FASTag.
Step 6: Your amount will be refunded.

FASTag issued by Paytm Payments Bank
Up to the sum that is available, you can keep using your FASTag to pay toll. On March 15, 2024, however, FASTags issued by Paytm Payments Bank will no longer be eligible for financing or top-ups.

Note that the credit balance transfer feature is not available in the FASTag product. Therefore, you will have to close your old FASTag issued by Paytm Payments Bank and request the bank for a refund.

After March 15, 2024 you will not be able to top-up or recharge your FASTag issued by Paytm Payments Bank. It is suggested that you procure a new FASTag issued by another bank before March 15, 2024 to avoid any inconvenience.

NHAI advisory
NHAI issued an advisory on March 13, 2024, stating the following: To ensure seamless travel experience and avoid inconvenience at toll plazas, NHAI has advised Paytm FASTag users to procure a new FASTag issued by another bank before March 15, 2024. This will help in avoiding penalties or any double fee charges while commuting on National Highways. In line with the guidelines issued by the Reserve Bank of India regarding restrictions on Paytm Payments Bank, the Paytm FASTags users will not be able to recharge or top-up the balance post 15th March 2024. However, they can use their existing balance to pay toll beyond the stipulated date. For any further queries or assistance related to Paytm FASTag, users can reach out to their respective banks or refer to the FAQs provided on the IHMCL website. NHAI has urged all Paytm FASTag users to take proactive measures to ensure a seamless travel experience on the National Highways across the country.

What Paytm is saying
Accorrding to a set of FAQs released by Paytm Payments Bank, on March 14, 2024: We are already offering HDFC Bank FASTags and also offer the FASTag recharge of other partnered banks on the Paytm app. However, you can not purchase Paytm Payments Bank FASTags though you can recharge it before 15th March and use the balance until it's exhausted.
