Type of bank holidays
There are certain bank holidays that are state-specific and some where banks throughout the country are shut. Major all-India holidays include Republic Day on January 26 (Tuesday), Idul Fitr on May 13 or May 14 (Tuesday or Wednesday, depending on the state), Gandhi Jayanti on October 2 (Saturday), and November 4 for Diwali (Thursday). On these days, banks all across the country will be shut.

Then there are holidays where banks across many states will be shut. These include Good Friday, Baisakhi/Vishu/Biju Festival/Cheiraoba/Bohag Bihu, Muharram, and Durga Puja or Dusshera.

State governments decide specific holidays. For instance, in Kerala, state-specific holidays include Onam and Vishu.

Banks also remain shut on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month.
