Kotak Mahindra Bank savings account customers will not get SMS alerts for these UPI transactions

Kotak Mahindra Bank customers should note that you will receive UPI SMS alerts only for Debit transactions above Rs 100 and Credit transactions above Rs 500. This will be applicable from May 15, 2023, according to a notification sent via email to Kotak Mahindra Bank customers.

All transactions, however, will be accessible in your bank account statement, which may be accessed using the Kotak Mobile Banking app or Net Banking, stated the email.



According to the mail sent to its customers, “Kindly note that w.e.f. May 15th 2023, you shall receive UPI SMS alerts only for Debit transactions above Rs 100 and Credit transactions above Rs 500.If you wish to enable SMS alerts for all UPI transactions, you can enable the same via the Kotak Bank Mobile Banking App."

What is a UPI (Unified Payments Interface) Number?
UPI number, like UPI ID, is an 8 or 9 or 10 digit number that you may establish so that anyone with ANY payment app can pay you by just inputting this number. There would be no need to enter the handle (e.g., number@abcd) of the payment or banking app to which you have linked this UPI number. This increases your privacy regardless of the payment or banking app you use. It will also be more convenient for the payer because they will only need to remember the number.

How to create a UPI Number on Kotak App?
To create a UPI number on Kotak app, click on BHIM UPI section under Pay & Transfer menu, select manage UPI ID & click on create now.

How to create a VPA/ UPI ID on Kotak Mobile Banking App
Step 1: Click on 'BHIM UPI' present in 'My Kotak' section or 'Banking' section
Step 2: In the 'BHIM UPI' menu, go to 'Manage VPA' and click on 'Create VPA'
Step 3: Select the account that you want to link with your VPA *
Step 4: Enter a new VPA in the space provided and check its availability
Step 5: Click on 'Create VPA' and confirm the details
Your VPA will be created and ready to use
* In case of existing VPAs, it will be displayed automatically.

How to send money using UPI
Step 1: Click on 'BHIM UPI' present in 'My Kotak' section or 'Banking' section of the Kotak Mobile App
Step 2: In the 'BHIM UPI' menu, navigate to 'Send Money'
Step 3: Select your mode of Payment – 'Pay to VPA' or 'Pay to Account'.

How to send money to a bank account
Step 1: Select your VPA from where you want to make the payment.
Step 2: Enter the Beneficiary Account Number, IFSC Code, Amount, Remarks and Submit.
Step 3: Confirm the details and payment is done.
