Is it a bank holiday on April 15 for Good Friday?

On Good Friday, April 15, almost all states will be closed, with the exception of three. Banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as Sundays, in addition to these days.

Banks in almost all states except three states will be closed on April 15 on account of Good Friday. Bank customers should also note that April 14 is also a holiday in many states.

States such as Rajasthan and Jammu and Kashmir will not be closed on Friday. Along with Good Friday the states will also witness Bengali New Year’s Day (Nababarsha), Himachal Day, Vishu and Bohag Bihu.
Banks were closed on April 14 to observe Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, Mahavir Jayanti, Baisakhi, Vaisakhi, Tamil New Year's Day, Cheiraoba, Biju Festival, Bohag Bihu.




The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) divides bank holidays into three categories.
  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act
  • Holiday under Negotiable Instruments Act and Real Time Gross Settlement Holiday
  • Banks’ Closing of Accounts
Banks will also be closed on the second and fourth Saturdays, as well as Sundays, in addition to these days.

It should be noted that banking holidays are based on state-specific festivals and may vary from one state to the next. According to the RBI calendar, the following is a list of bank holidays for the month of April 2022.
