Is HDFC Bank's Insta Alert service free of cost?

Customers of HDFC Bank have been notified by email that instead of a set amount per quarter, they will now be charged based on the exact number of Insta notifications delivered.

HDFC Bank has informed its customers through an email that they are now charging on the exact number of Insta alerts sent instead of a flat rate per quarter.

HDFC Bank in its mail stated: “RBI instructed us to conduct Insta Alert Charging on the exact number of alerts sent instead of flat rate. This went live on Jan 22.”

The bank also said that certain categories of savings account customers will receive Free Insta Alerts from March 20222 onwards. “Since you are a valued HDFC Bank Corporate customer, We wish to inform you that we will reverse all the Insta Alert charges deducted for Jan 22 and Feb 22 in next7 days. You will receive Free Insta Alerts from Mar 22 onwards,” stated the HDFC Bank email.


HDFC Bank had previously revised pricing for InstaAlert services via Email and SMS, effective January 1, 22. If you used to pay Rs. 3 every quarter for InstaAlert SMS service, it was revised to 20 paise + GST per SMS. The email alert will stay free for now.

How to register for SMS and email InstaAlerts through net banking
Step1: Login to NetBanking
Step 2: Click on InstaAlerts on the top banner and follow the instructions.

How to register for SMS and email InstaAlerts through mobile banking
Step 1: Login to Mobile App
Step 2: Go to Menu
Step 3: Select Your Profile
Step 4: Click on Manage Alerts.

If a customer wants to modify or unsubscribe to the InstaAlter service, they can do so online.

Here is how to do it.
Step 1: Log in to NetBanking with your Customer ID and NetBanking Password
Step 2: Click on "Insta Alerts" on the top right hand corner of the page.
Step 3: Select the account number for which you wish to de-register or register the alerts.

Step 4: Select the type of alerts, you want to make changes
Step 5: Once the alerts are selected click on confirm.
