IRCTC offers 20% fare discount for Diwali & Chhath return trips: Check details

Indian Railways is launching an experimental scheme called Round Trip Package for festival rush on discounted fare in order to avoid rush, ensure hassle free booking and to facilitate passengers and redistribute the peak traffic for a larger range during peak festival seasons, according to a Press Bureau of India (PIB) release on August 9, 2025.

Indian Railways is offering Round Trip Package as an experimental scheme offering a 20% rebate on the base fare of the return journey for passengers booking both onward and return tickets together during the Diwali–Chhath festival season.

Only passengers booking confirmed tickets for both onward and return journeys for the same set of passengers, in the same class, and for the same origin–destination pair can avail the rebate.

The scheme applies to travel during the festive rush period, with onward journeys scheduled between 13th October and 26th October 2025 and return journeys between 17th November and 1st December 2025. Notably, the usual 60-day advance reservation period will not apply for booking the return tickets, allowing passengers more flexibility in planning their trip.

Bookings open on 14th August 2025. Passengers must first book the onward ticket, then book the return ticket using the connecting journey feature to get the rebate.

No refunds, modifications, or additional discounts are allowed.
The offer is valid for all classes and trains (including special trains) except Flexi fare trains.
Tickets must be booked through the same mode (either online or at reservation counters).
