How to activate/enable contactless payments on SBI debit card: Here are 3 ways

SBI contactless debit cards can be used to make purchases at merchant locations, make online payments, and withdraw cash in India and around the world.

The SBI Global Contactless Debit Card includes an EMV Chip for added protection.

How does it SBI contactless debit card work?

A customer can make electronic payments by just waving the contactless card near the PoS terminal, eliminating the requirement for inserting or swiping the card at the PoS terminal. This ensures that the debit card is always with the customer. According to the SBI website, “The PIN will not be prompted if the NFC enabled Card is being used at NFC terminal for transactions up to Rs 5000. Maximum such five contactless transactions without PIN are permitted per day.”


Note that existing debit cards are barred from using them for international, card-not-present (e-commerce), and contactless transactions if they haven't been used in the last 12 months.

How to enable SBI Contactless debit card through SMS

SBI customers can send SMS to 09223966666 from registered mobile number.

Note: CCCC/CCCCC is the last 4/5 digits of your Debit Card number

How to enable SBI contactless debit card through net banking?

Step 1: Login in https://www.onlinesbi.com with User Id and Password
Step 2: Select Menu - E-Services - ATM Card Services - ATM Card Limit/Channel/Usage Change
Step 3: Select Account Number - Select Card Number - Select Services
Step 4: Change Usage Type - NFC Usage
Step 5: Select Enable and Submit.
