Aadhaar
Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identity number that can be obtained by residents of India, based on their biometric and demographic data. The method for enrolling a resident in Aadhaar comprises the use of certain basic demographic information paired with ten fingerprints, both irises, and a photograph to uniquely identify a resident through a duplication process.

Aadhaar for NRI
An NRI (whether minor or adult) with a valid Indian Passport can apply for Aadhaar from any Aadhaar Kendra.

NRI after his arrival in India
According to the UIDAI circular dated September 2019: “Consequent upon the publication of notification No. 3119 dated 20ft Sept,2019, Non Resident Indian (NRI), after his arrival in India, shall be entitled to obtain Aadhaar number. Accordingly, following procedure shall be followed for Aadhaar enrolment of NRI's:
1. Valid Indian passport shall be accepted as Proof of Identity (PoI), Proof of Address (PoA)& date of birth (DoB) document.
2. Incase NRI's passport does not have Indian address, he shall be allowed to submit any of the other UIDAI approved poA documents as proof of Address.
3. Revised enrolment form with modified declaration for NRI is attached as Annexure.
4. Verifiers at Aadhaar centers shall ensure that above procedures are complied with, for enrolment of NRI. This issues with the approval of CEO, UIDAI.”

What is the process for NRI enrolment in Aadhaar?
Step 1: Visit any Aadhaar Kendra of your convenience.
Step 2: Carry valid Indian Passport with you, fill details in the enrolment form
Step 3: Giving Email ID is mandatory for NRI
The declaration for NRI enrolment is slightly different. Read and sign the same in your enrolment form
Step 4: Ask the operator to enroll you as NRI
Step 5: Give your Passport as Proof of Identity

Step 7: Check all details on screen (in English and local language) before you allow the operator to submit

NRI child who is below 5 years of age
By signing the enrollment form, one of the parents or guardians must authenticate on the child's behalf and grant permission for the minor's enrollment.
A current Indian passport is required as Proof of Identity (PoI) if the child is an NRI.
Any legitimate Proof of Relationship document, such as a birth certificate, together with the parent's or guardian's Aadhaar, may be used for enrollment if the child is an Indian resident (not an NRI).

The enrollment of the minor requires the signature of one of the parents or guardians on the enrollment form.
