Free Aadhaar update deadline extended by one year: Check new due date for UID update on myAadhaar portal

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the free online Aadhaar document update service on the myAadhaar portal will continue for another year. Aadhaar holders can update their documents on their UID card at no cost through the myAadhaar portal until June 14, 2026, UIDAI said in an office memorandum (OM) on May 13, 2026.

The OM also mentioned that this extension comes after a positive response from Aadhaar card holders who have been updating their information online.

In an update posted on X (formerly Twitter), UIDAI has also notified that the mAadhaar app will be retired soon and Aadhaar holders can now download the new Aadhaar app. The new app offers features such as secure QR-based Aadhaar sharing, enhanced privacy controls and seamless access to Aadhaar services, making the digital identity experience simpler and more convenient

When is the last date to update your Aadhaar card for free on the myAadhaar portal?

The online service, which used to charge a fee, is now available for free until June 14, 2027, but only through the myAadhaar portal.

"It has been decided to extend the facility for one more year, i.e., from June 15, 2026, to June 14, 2027. Accordingly, the facility for document update shall continue to be free of cost through myAadhaar portal at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/ up to June 14, 2027, the OM said.

How does the free document update facility on myAadhaar portal benefit Aadhaar card holders?

Aadhaar users who need to update their proof of identity and address documents can continue to do so online without paying any charges. The free update facility is available only through the myAadhaar portal.
UIDAI has been encouraging people, especially those who obtained Aadhaar many years ago, and have not updated documents recently, to upload supporting documents to maintain accuracy in the Aadhaar database.

How to submit Aadhaar documents online?

Step 1: Go to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/, and log in using your Aadhaar number and one-time password (OTP) received on your registered mobile number.
Step 2: Check your identity and address details displayed in your profile.
Step 3: If the details displayed in your profile are incorrect, take action as described in response to Question 5 below.
Step 4: If the details displayed in your profile are correct, please click on the tab 'I verify that the above details are correct'.
Step 5: Select the identity document from the drop-down menu that you wish to submit.
Step 6: Upload your identity document (size less than 2 MB; file format JPEG, PNG or PDF)
Step 7: Select the address document from the drop-down menu that you wish to submit.
Step 8: Upload your address document (size less than 2 MB; file format JPEG, PNG or PDF). Submit your consent.

What are the charges for updating Aadhaar card details?

Aadhaar card update charges are as follows-
1. Biometric update
(Update of fingerprint, iris and photo)

• First update between age 5 and 7 years: Free
• First or second update between age 15 and 17 years: Free
• Other biometric updates: Rs 125

Special relaxation: Updates between age 7 and 15 years are free till September 30, 2026
2. Demographic update
(Update of name, gender, date of birth, address, mobile number or email)

• Done along with biometric update: Free
• Done separately: Rs 75

3. Document update
(Submission of identity and address proof documents)
