Therefore, subscribers will have to wait for the government notification before the interest is credited to their EPF accounts.

Why is EPF interest not credited immediately after the financial year ends?
Experts say the process involves government approval, reconciliation of accounts and updating of millions of EPF member records, which can take several weeks.

According to Adhil Shetty, CEO of BankBazaar.com, interest continues to accrue on eligible balances even if the entry is not yet visible in the EPF passbook. Members should watch for the passbook update marked "Int. Updated up to 31/03/2026."

Will you lose money if EPF interest credit is delayed?
No. Under Paragraph 60 of the EPF Scheme, 1952, interest is calculated on the monthly running balance even if the credit appears later in the account.

The EPFO calculates interest on eligible balances throughout the year and compounds it annually. Therefore, any administrative delay in reflecting the interest does not reduce the amount payable to a member.
