How you can build Rs 2.52 cr corpus
The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) is the key scheme for a large number of organised sector employees to build a retirement corpus. With the government approving the increase of the EPF wage ceiling from Rs 15,000 to Rs 25,000, lakhs of new employees are estimated to benefit from the decision. But how can the EPF help employees build a substantial retirement fund that can take care of their expenses in retirement. If a 30-year-old employee has a basic salary of Rs 50,000 and wants to contribute to their EPF account till the age of 60, is it possible for them to build a Rs 2.52 crore retirement corpus?

How much can an employee build a Rs 2.52 crore corpus through the EPF?
The EPF offers an 8.25% interest rate compounded yearly to its subscribers. The government reviews the rate every year, and has changed it many times in the past. However, for the retirement corpus calculation, we are considering that the rate will remain constant at 8.25% for the next 30 years. We are also assuming that the 30-year-old employee who has a basic pay of Rs 50,000 will see their payout increase by 6% annually, and hence, their annual EPF contribution will also increase by the same percentage.

The employee will contribute 12% of their basic pay to their EPF corpus, while the employer’s contribution will be 3.67% of the employee’s basic pay.
