DA hiked by 3%: How much will salary increase for central govt employees, pensioners from October 2024? DA hike, arrear calculation

Before Diwali, the Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, declared a 4 percent increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for employees of the state government, raising the total DA to 50 percent. Speaking to reporters in Raipur, CM Sai said, "Our government has decided that all state employees are currently getting 46 per cent DA, we are increasing their DA by 4 per cent. From now on, they will get 50 per cent DA." The Chhattisgarh Chief Minister's Office stated that the updated dearness allowance of 50 percent will come into effect from October 1.

The Odisha government has approved a 4% rise in dearness allowance (DA) for workers of State Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) who are receiving salaries based on the Revised Scale of Pay, 2017. This increment, which elevates the DA from 46% to 50%, will come into effect from January 1, 2024. An official memorandum was issued by the Public Enterprises Department of the Odisha Government, specifying the conditions under which the additional DA will be granted. As per the memorandum, the increase will be applicable only to PSUs that fulfill specific financial and governance criteria, ensuring that only profitable entities and those with strong fiscal management will qualify for the increased DA.

On the night before Dasehra, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, revealed a 4 percent increase in dearness allowance for state government employees and pensioners, starting from January 1, 2023. The Chief Minister stated that outstanding medical bills of government workers and pension arrears for individuals over 75 years old will be settled immediately. Class-IV employees will receive a Rs 20,000 installment of their arrears in this financial year.

The state government also opted to distribute the salary and pension on October 28 in order to bring more joy this holiday season.“In view of Diwali, the government has decided to pay the salary and pension for the month of October in October itself,” the Chief Minister said.

Sikkim's government has increased dearness allowance for its employees by four percent in anticipation of the Durga Puja festival. The state government staff will see an increase in their DA from the current 46 percent to 50 percent starting from January 1, 2024. The enhancement will also apply to dearness relief for pensioners. Additionally, employees appointed on a contract basis and those in work-charged establishments who draw revised pay in the regular scales of pay of the state government will be eligible for the increased DA.

The state government has given the green light to a 9% increase in the dearness allowance (DA) for government employees. Prior to this, government employees were receiving a DA of 230% under the Sixth Central Pay Commission. The new raise brings it up to 239%, which will offer financial relief to many state government employees. The updated DA rates will come into effect from January 1, 2024.
