Can the government delay the DA hike announcement until October 28?
The government often announces major decisions after cabinet meetings. Since dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) affect more than one crore central government employees and pensioners, the hike is often announced after a cabinet meeting.
However, this is not a mandatory rule. The Department of Expenditure under the Finance Ministry can notify the DA hike without waiting for a cabinet announcement.

Why are employees still waiting for the DA hike?
Employees had expected an announcement in the first week of October, but the government did not announce the hike at the October 6 cabinet meeting. Hopes rose again ahead of the October 14 meeting, but the government announced the Railway employees' performance-linked bonus instead.
On October 16, it announced the non-performance-linked bonus for central government employees, but not the DA hike. Employees then expected an announcement after the October 21 meeting, which was not held.

July 2026 DA hike: When will the revised rate apply?
According to Manjeet Singh Patel, president of the All India New Pension Scheme Employees' Federation (AINPSEF), the revised DA rate will apply for July-December 2026.

If the government announces the hike in October, employees could receive arrears for July to October along with their salary at the end of November. This timeline depends on when the government announces and implements the hike.

Will the DA rate rise from 60% to 63% or 64%?
The DA calculation uses average retail inflation from July 2025 to June 2026. Applying the inflation data to the DA formula suggests a possible 3 percentage-point increase, taking the DA rate from 60% to 63%. However, this is an estimate, not an official announcement. The final revised rate will be confirmed by the government.

How much more salary could employees get after a DA hike?
DA is calculated as a percentage of basic pay. An increase in DA therefore raises an employee's salary. Transport allowance (TPTA), another salary component linked to DA, also increases. For example, a Level 5 central government employee with basic pay of Rs 29,200 could see the following increase if DA rises from 60% to 63%.

DA hike calculation for a Level 5 employee
For an employee with basic pay of Rs 29,200:
*Monthly increase in DA: Rs 876
*Additional transport allowance in a higher TPTA city: Approximately Rs 108
The estimate assumes a 3-percentage-point DA hike. The actual increase in transport allowance depends on the applicable TPTA category and rules.
