Buddha Purnima bank holiday: Banks will be closed today on May 12 in these states

Banks in several states will remain closed on Monday, May 12, 2025, for Buddha Purnima, which would lead to a three-day bank holiday in these states, as it is preceded by the second Saturday and Sunday. Banks will reopen on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, after the three-day extended weekend closure.

Buddha Purnima, a significant festival commemorating the birth, enlightenment, and death of Lord Buddha. This public holiday, also known as Buddha Jayanti, is widely celebrated in regions with Buddhist populations and holds cultural and religious importance.

Banks will be closed in these states for Buddha Purnima

Banks are closed on May 12, 2025 in Tripura, Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Srinagar on account of Buddha Purnima.

Services affected during the May 9–11 bank holiday

During this three-day period, the following in-branch banking services will be unavailable in West Bengal:
Cash Transactions: Deposits, withdrawals, and currency exchanges at bank branches.
Cheque Processing: Clearing of cheques and demand drafts.
Loan Services: Loan applications, repayments, or inquiries handled in-person.
Account Management: Opening new accounts, updating KYC, or accessing lockers.
Fund Transfers: Branch-initiated NEFT, RTGS, or IMPS transactions.
