The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) every year announces a month-wise bank holiday calendar that has the list of holidays for all states. RBI-approved bank holidays across India may vary from state to state depending on local festivals, birthdays, anniversaries or other celebrations. With the new year (year 2026) just around the corner, it is time to check when banks will be closed in different parts of India in January 2026.

Banks also remain closed on all Sundays and the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, as per RBI rules.

Banks are closed on January 1, 2026 in Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Sikkim, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, West Bengal and Meghalaya for New Year’s Day and Gaan-Ngai.
