Let's have a look at the forthcoming bank holidays as we say goodbye to the year 2023 and excitedly await the entrance of the New Year 2024

The holidays are classified into three groups by the central government under the Negotiable Instruments Act of 1881: those covered by the Act, real-time gross settlement holidays, and bank account closing holidays

Central government holiday list 2024


Banks are closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month in India as those days are government and national holidays. The bank will be open on the fifth Saturday of a month if the month has five Saturdays.

Throughout the year, there are a few national holidays: October 2 (Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti), August 15 (Independence Day), and January 26 (Republic Day). The majority of states' banks will be closed on these days.

However, depending on the area, several states have designated holidays. On November 1, banks are closed in Karnataka as part of the celebration of Karnataka Rajyotasava. In Maharashtra, banks will be closed on May 1, which is observed as May Day or Maharashtra Day.

Banks will be closed on festivals like Diwali, Ganesh Chaturthi, Christmas, Eidh, Guru Nanak Jayanthi, Good Friday. Though festivals like Diwali and Ganesh Chaturthi are celebrated in many states, the date varies depending on the state.

Banks also offer many non-financial transactions which can be done online without visiting the bank or worrying about the bank holiday.
