Bank holiday for Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha): Are banks open or closed today in your state on May 28, 2026?

Banks in several states are closed on Thursday, May 28, 2026, on account of Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha), one of the major Islamic festivals observed across the country. The holiday is being observed in many states as per the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) state-wise holiday calendar.

Apart from festival-related, national holidays, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks in India also remain closed on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month, along with Sundays. Since May 28 falls on a working weekday in most regions, the closure depends entirely on the state-wise holiday notification.

States in which banks are not closed today

Banks are closed in all states except Odisha, Sikkim, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

Digital banking is available today

Customers in states observing the Bakri ID holiday will not be able to access branch-based banking services such as cash deposits, withdrawals, cheque clearance, passbook updates, demand draft issuance or in-person customer service. However, digital banking services including internet banking, mobile banking, UPI, ATMs and card transactions will continue to function normally.

Bakrid, also known as Eid-al-Adha or Id-ul-Zuha, is a major Islamic festival of sacrifice, celebrated globally on the 10th day of the lunar month of Dhu al-Hijjah.
