It is a bank holiday in certain states on July 29, 2023, on account of Muharram. In Jammu and Kashmir it is observed on July 28, 2023.

Banks are closed in these states
Muharram (Tajiya)- Tripura, Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Hyderabad, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bengal, Lucknow, New Delhi, Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.


In July, both public and private banks will remain closed on occasions of Guru Hargobind Ji's birth anniversary, MHIP Day, Ker Puja, Bhanu Jayanti, U Tirot Sing Day, Drukpa Tshe-zi, Ashoora, Muharram (Tajiya) in select states.

In August 2023, banks will be closed for 14 days across various including Sundays, second and fourth Saturday. There are state-specific bank holidays, as well as others when all banks in the country are closed. Banks will be closed countrywide on August 15 in commemoration of Independence Day.

Customers can do financial and non-financial transactions on bank holiday days using net banking and mobile banking services. Non-financial activities include ordering a cheque book, savings account balance, and obtaining a passbook can be easily done through net banking. Financial transactions include transfer of money, booking fixed deposits etc,.
