Aadhaar card update: How to change your name, date of birth and gender online

If the details in your Aadhaar card such as name, date of birth etc. do not match with those in your PAN, then you will not be able to link your PAN with Aadhaar. Through the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) website, Aadhaar card holders can update name, gender, date of birth and address online.

Do keep in mind that your mobile number must be registered in the UIDAI's records to be able to use this update service. If the mobile number it not registered, then you will be required to visit the Aadhaar Seva Kendra or Enrolment/Update Centre.


Follow the steps below to update name, gender and date of birth in your Aadhaar card online:
Step 1: Visit https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/
Step 2: Click on 'Login'.

Step 3: A new page will open on your screen. You will be required to enter your Aadhaar number, captcha code and click on 'Send OTP'. A one-time password (OTP) will be sent on your registered mobile number.

Step 4: Enter the OTP and click on 'Login'. Do keep in mind that OTP is valid for 10 minutes only.
Once logged in, on the homepage you can access various services. Select 'Update Aadhaar online' to update name, date of birth, gender, address and language written on your Aadhaar.

Once selected, you will be redirected to the new page. You will be shown how the updation process will work. Through online portal you can make minor correction in name, correction in date of birth, gender, language and address. Once you have read all the steps, then click on 'Proceed to update Aadhaar'.

Step 5: Select the Aadhaar details you want to update. Do keep in handy the scanned copy of documents handy. These documents will be needed to update the data in Aadhaar card. Once selected, click on 'Proceed to update Aadhaar'. Do keep in mind that there is a limit on the number of times you can make an update.

Step 6: In the next step you will be shown your current details. Enter the details that are required to be updated, upload the supporting documents. Check the preview of the newly added details and make payment.

Once the payment is made, an update request number (URN) will be generated. You can download your acknowledgement copy as well.

Charges for updation
As per office memorandum dated April 21, 2021, demographic update such as updation in name, gender, mobile number etc. is charged at Rs 50 Further, updation of more than one field on single instance will be considered as one update. For example, if you update your name and date of birth together, then you will be required to make a payment of Rs 50.

Other things to remember
As per the UIDAI website, an Aadhaar card holder can update his or her name only twice in their lifetime. Do keep in mind that these are the instances when name in Aadhaar can be changed:

• Spell correction and should be phonetically the same
• Sequence change
• Short form to full form
• Name change after marriage

The gender can be updated only once in a lifetime and date of birth can be changed only once in a life time subject to the condition that the date of birth presently mentioned in UIDAI details is declared/approximate.
