Aadhaar card fraud: Follow this tip to prevent misuse

Aadhaar card has become a part of our day-to-day lives in the last few years. From opening a bank account to getting a driving license, Aadhaar cards are frequently used to verify an individual's identity.

An Aadhaar card contains a unique Aadhaar number which is issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). It also contains other important data such as biometric information such as fingerprints, IRIS, and facial images.

In the wake of growing concerns around data privacy and security, it is crucial to protect your data. Fraudsters can misuse biometric details and carry out unauthorised authentication, using their Aadhaar card.

To prevent the misuse of your Aadhaar card, UIDAI provides a feature that allows you to lock your biometric details. Anyone with a valid Aadhaar card can use this feature to lock and temporarily unlock their biometric details.

Once the biometric data is locked, the Aadhaar card holder will no longer be able to use the details for authentication.

If anyone tries to use any authentication service using their Aadhaar when the biometrics is locked, a specific error code 330 will indicate that the biometric details can't be accessed.

You can go to the official website of UIDAI and find the option to lock your Aadhaar biometric details. Once you lock your biometric details, they remain inaccessible until you choose to either unlock them or disable the biometric lock.
