8th Pay Commission expected hike
As discussions around the 8th Pay Commission gather pace, central government employees and pensioners are closely watching one key factor that will determine the extent of their salary and pension revisions, that is the fitment factor. The final fitment factor approved by the government will not only impact revised salaries and pensions of employees and pensioners but will also have a significant impact on the arrears payable from the date of of the pay commission implementation.

8th Pay Commission arrear calculation
Since arrears will also depend on the fitment factor decided by the 8th Pay Commission, here is an estimate of the monthly salary hikes and arrears for Level 3 employees at 2, 2.15, 2.28 and 2.57 fitment factors. The calculation is for 20 months of arrears for Level 3 employees.

How are arrears for central government employees calculated?
Monthly pay difference (between 8th and 7th CPC basic pays)× number of delayed months.The revised pay is derived by applying the approved fitment factor to the existing 7th CPC basic pay. A fitment factor is a multiplier of salary and pension. A 2.0 fitment factor means the basic salary of an employee will be doubled in a new pay commission.
