8th Pay Commission pension: Could your basic pension jump sharply?
The 8th Pay Commission could revise the pension of central government employees covered under the Old Pension Scheme who retire on or after January 1, 2026. 8th Pay Commission pension rules: How is basic pension calculated?
Under the existing rules, an employee generally needs at least 10 years of qualifying service to receive a pension. From January 1, 2006, pension is calculated at 50% of the last basic pay or average basic pay drawn during the final 10 months, whichever is more beneficial. Under the 7th CPC, the minimum pension is ₹9,000 a month and the maximum is ₹1.25 lakh.

The estimated figures for Level 7, Level 8 and Level 9 are ₹51,186, ₹54,264 and ₹60,534 respectively. The calculations use the minimum pension under the 7th CPC as the starting point.
