8th Pay Commission pension: Could your retirement income get a big boost?
Central government employees and pensioners are looking for a higher pension under the 8th Pay Commission. Several employee and pensioner bodies have demanded that OPS pension be raised from 50% to 67% of last-drawn salary. But what if the Centre instead uses a fitment factor to revise pensions? Here’s what Level 4-7 employees could potentially receive under three assumed fitment factors.

What are employee bodies demanding for 8th CPC pension?
Several associations have sought a higher pension under the 8th Pay Commission. NC-JCM, AIDEF and Bharat Pensioners Samaj have proposed 67% of last-drawn pay as pension, with family pension at 50%. AINPSEF and BPS have also sought One Rank, One Pension for civilian pensioners. BPS has proposed a minimum pension of ₹45,000 along with the 67% pension demand.

7th Pay Commission: What do Level 4-7 employees currently get?
Under the 7th Pay Commission, OPS pension is ordinarily calculated at 50% of last basic pay or the average basic pay of the last 10 months, whichever is higher. For the minimum pension levels, Level 4 starts at ₹12,750, Level 5 at ₹14,600, Level 6 at ₹17,700 and Level 7 at ₹22,450. These figures provide the base for the 8th CPC estimates.

8th Pay Commission pension calculator: What could Levels 4-7 get at 2.15 fitment factor?
What could happen to pension if the 8th Pay Commission uses a 2.15 fitment factor? Based on the assumptions used for these estimates, pension could rise across Levels 4 to 7. The table below shows the estimated revised pension for each level. These figures are only indicative because the actual fitment factor and pension formula have not yet been finalised.

8th Pay Commission pension calculator: Check Level 4-7 estimates at 2.28 fitment factor
A higher fitment factor would result in a higher estimated pension if the same calculation method is used. At an assumed 2.28 fitment factor, pension for Levels 4 to 7 could increase further compared with the 2.15 scenario. Use the table below to see the estimated pension for each pay level under this assumption.

8th Pay Commission pension calculator: Could Level 7 pension reach ₹57,697 at 2.57 fitment factor?
The highest scenario in this calculation assumes a 2.57 fitment factor, the same factor used by the 7th Pay Commission. Under this assumption, estimated pension rises substantially across Levels 4 to 7. The Level 7 estimate comes closest to ₹58,000 a month. However, this is only a calculation based on an assumed factor, not a confirmed pension amount.

8th Pay Commission latest news: Why the fitment factor matters so much for your pension
The fitment factor can have a major impact on the revised pension. For these estimates, the 7th CPC pension is multiplied by the assumed factor, following the approach used when the 7th CPC pension was derived. A higher factor therefore produces a larger estimated pension. However, 2.15, 2.28 and 2.57 are only assumptions for this calculation, not announced 8th CPC fitment factors.
