State Finance Minister Pankaj Chaudhary informed that the 8th CPC will make its recommendations on various issues viz. pay, allowances, pension, etc., of central government employees within 18 months of its constitution.
The Ministry of Finance has informed Parliament about the proposed changes related to pay scales, salaries, allowances and pension structures in the 8th Pay Commission (8th CPC).

In a reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha, the Finance Ministry also discussed the government's roadmap for the implementation of 8th CPC recommendations.

The Ministry also mentioned whether it has evaluated the fiscal impact of implementing 8th CPC recommendations on the Union Budget.

Proposed changes under 8th Pay Commission, timeline and fiscal impact

A Raja, member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, asked about the key areas under review in the 8th Pay Commission.

The MP also asked about the proposed changes in the pay scales, salaries and allowances and pension structures.

Raja further inquired about the timeline proposed for the submission of the 8th CPC report along with the government's roadmap for the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission’s recommendations.

Raja asked whether the government has made any assessment of the fiscal impact of implementing CPC recommendations on the Union Budget?

Finance Ministry’s updates about 8th Pay Commission

Replying to Raja’s queries related to the 8th Pay Commission, Pankaj Chaudhary, Minister of Finance, Minister of State, says the government has notified the resolution dated November 3, 2025, for the constitution of the 8th Central Pay Commission, along with the appointment of the chairperson and members.

What will 8th Pay Commission do?

Chaudhary said the 8th CPC will make its recommendations on various issues viz. pay, allowances, pension, etc., of central government employees within 18 months of its constitution.

Fiscal impact of 8th Pay Commission recommendations on Union Budget

According to Chaudhary, the fiscal impact of the recommendations of the 8th Pay Commission will be known once these are accepted by the central government.

8th Pay Commission office

The 8th Pay Commission has started functioning in its office in New Delhi. It has appointed three members who will look after central government employees’ pay, pension, allowance and other service-related issues. They are:

Ranjana Prakash Desai- chairperson

Pulak Ghosh- member, part time

Pankaj Jain- member- secretary

Apart from these three appointments, the 8th Pay Commission has also invited applications for positions of director/dy. secretary, under secretary/PSO/Sr. PPS/PPS officers, etc.

8th Pay Commission memorandum submission deadline

The 8th CPC has also provided an online structured format for inviting memorandum/representations from associations/unions of serving employees/pensioners, organisations/institutions as well as from employees, pensioners and interested individuals on its website (8cpc.gov.in). Submissions would be received up to April 30, 2026.

8th CPC questionnaire submission deadline

Apart from that, the 8th Pay Commission has also solicited views from ministries, departments, state/UTs, employees of government, employees of Union Territories, judicial officers, officers/employees of courts, members of regulatory bodies, associations or unions of serving or retired employees, pensioners, researchers, academicians and individuals. These inputs are being sought in a structured manner through a questionnaire with 18 questions hosted on the MyGov.in web portal.

Employees of ministry/department, Union Territories, judicial officers, officers/employees of courts, members of regulatory bodies, associations or unions of serving or retired employees, pensioners, researchers, academicians and individuals may access the questionnaire and submit responses, the 8th Pay Commission says on its website.

The last date of submitting this questionnaire is March 31, 2026.
