KOLKATA: Coinciding with the public opening of the Venice Biennale on June 1, 2013, Sotheby's on May 31 said that on 19th June 2013 it will offer an exceptionally rare and important view of Venice by Claude Monet. Estimated at £15-20m, The Contarini Palace will be the star lot of the summer sales season in London.

Painted by Monet during a three-month trip to the city in 1908 - the year of one of the first Venice Biennales - the painting dates from the peak of Monet's career.

Helena Newman, chairman Sotheby's Impressionist and Modern Art Department Europe, said in an email statement: ""Venice and Monet were made for each other. With its ravishing palette and modern aesthetic, this is a work of timeless appeal."" The painting will be the highlight of Sotheby's London Evening sale of Impressionist and Modern Art which will also include works by Picasso, Mondrian and Kandinsky.
