Sotheby's staging exhibit of Pre-Columbian masterpieces
Sotheby's is staging an exhibit of Pre-Columbian masterpieces in its Paris galleries starting March 4. The works are featured in its upcoming sale in Paris on March 22 and 23.
The auction house is offering a sale of The Barbier-Mueller Collection in Paris. This collection is the most exceptional collection of Pre-Columbian Art in private hands, according to a Sotheby's statement. Choices across the cultures reflect a coherence of vision and showcase achievements in the great variety of media in which Pre-Columbian artists worked.
Among the many highlights are a Chupicuaro Statue, a Mayan Cephalomorphic Vase, a Tarascan Duck-shaped Vase formerly in the Guy Joussemet Collection, a Mayan Ceramic Head formerly in the John Huston Collection and an Aztec Water Goddess Figure acquired by Josef Mueller in 1920.
