Sotheby's Beyond Limits 2013: Sculpture to be paired with Modern Makers

For eight years, Sotheby's has held acclaimed selling exhibitions of monumental sculpture in the spectacular grounds of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire.

KOLKATA: For eight years, Sotheby's has held acclaimed selling exhibitions of monumental sculpture in the spectacular grounds of Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. Now, in a new departure, this year's Beyond Limits -- which will feature works by Jaume Plensa, Manolo Valdes, Mario Merz, Juan Munoz and Marc Quinn -- will be paired with Modern Makers, an indoor selling exhibition of specially commissioned works by many of the most exciting designers and craftsmen of our day.

Curated by Sarah Griffin, the indoor exhibition will be staged in the newly-developed galleries within the house and will span everything from furniture to metalwork, textiles, sculpture, ceramics and more. Leading international names such as Joseph Walsh, Ptolemy Mann and Junko Mori have all created pieces especially for the show, mainly taking their inspiration from the interiors and objects in the legendary Devonshire collection.

Beyond Limits runs from 9th to 27th October, while Modern Makers will be open from 18th September to 23rd December.
