At the close of three of the five sales devoted to Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie’s this week, the running tally for the series is $258 million.

KOLKATA: At the close of three of the five sales devoted to Impressionist and Modern Art at Christie’s this week, the running tally for the series is $258 million. Bidders from more than 35 different countries have participated in the live auctions this week, beginning with the Part I Evening Session of the Krugier Collection on Monday evening and continuing with a Part II Day Sale on Tuesday, and Christie’s bi-annual Evening Sale of Impressionist and Modern Art on Tuesday night. Two additional sales of Works of Paper and the Day sale will complete the series on Wednesday, November 6.

Andreas Rumbler, deputy chairman, acting head of department for Impressionist & Modern Art and auctioneer for the sale, comments, "From the rostrum I witnessed significant international participation, with particularly fervent bidding from our Asian colleagues working with clients from several different countries in the region.

"It’s been a pleasure to see both new and established clients from the region in vigorous pursuit of the best examples of Western art from the Impressionist and Modern eras this week, especially following our inaugural Christie’s auction in Shanghai this past September. We were also pleased to see great masters recognized with spirited bidding in the sale, as demonstrated with top lots by Kandinsky and Van Gogh."
