Rs 20 lakh fine for Greater Noida builders for violating green norms

NOIDA/GREATER NOIDA: A day after the National Green Tribunal (NGT) summoned top officials in Gautam Budh Nagar for failing to ensure implementation of its green norms, the Noida and Greater Noida authorities came down heavily on the violators on Thursday.

The Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority imposed a fine of Rs 5 lakh each on four builders and suspended a junior engineer.

“On Thursday, we received information that waste was being burnt in a vacant plot near Daewoo Factory. I rushed to the site and it took about an hour to douse the flames. I suspended the junior engineer for dereliction of duty. The contractor responsible for clearing waste, Jai Shree Vaishnav Traders, has been blacklisted and fined Rs 10,000,” Deepak Agarwal, Chief Executive Officer, GNIDA, told TOI.


Elaborating about the Rs 20 lakh fine imposed on the builders, Agarwal said, “Every builder has to strictly comply with the MoEF 2010 guidelines on constructions. These builders were violating the norms. They have been asked to pay the fine in 15 days or face further action.”

The authority also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on a contractor for burning waste near a compost pit in the green belt of Swarn Nagri and near NTPC. “Our teams also sprinkled water at several construction sites and covered mounds of earth. The officials also ensured waste was being dumped at designated sites,” he added.

Meanwhile, Saumya Srivastava, Deputy CEO, Noida Authority, said they had imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on a builder on Thursday for garbage burning.
