Organisations with even ten employees may have to pay PF
Establishments with a strength of even ten employees may have to pay PF to their staff if the latest proposal in this regard is approved by EPFO.
The proposal, which came up before the EPFO board at its meeting today, says that every establishment that has ten or more employees will have to spare provident fund money for them.
The proposal has been deferred for the next meeting of the board.
Currently, the EPFO covers only an establishment with 20 employees.
"There are many factories that have employees between ten and twenty. They deliberately keep the number within twenty and more than ten. So in such situations employees are at a loss. This area needs to be taken up," said W R Vardarajan Secretary CITU and member of the EPFO board.
It is a long pending issue which has now been taken up with the board which deferred it as the employers needed some time to look into the whole thing before making any commitment, he said.
Another issue that featured in the agenda was the upgradation of the system at EPFO office with latest technology, a project now taken over by the National Informatics Centre from Simens.
"The National Informatics Centre has demonstrated a software in today's meeting. We are hoping that the system will be flawless and soon be in place. That would certainly speed up the working at the EPFO office," said the CITU Secretary.
