NPS Vatsalya registration

The NPS Vatsalya Scheme, regulated by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA), is a contributory pension scheme designed to provide financial security for minors up to age 18. Under the scheme, investments are made in fixed income as well as market-linked investments. Here’s how to register.

Go to official website
Begin by visiting the official eNPS website at enps.nsdl.com. On the home page, choose the ‘NPS Vatsalya’ option that is designed specifically for minors.

Give details
Provide the required information, which includes the child’s name and date of birth, as well as guardian’s details, such as name, contact details and relationship with the minor.

Upload documents
Attach the necessary documents, which include:
  • Child’s birth certificate as proof of age.
  • Guardian’s identity proof, such as Aadhaar or PAN card.
Make initial contribution
To activate the account, the applicant needs to make a minimum contribution of Rs.1,000. There is no upper limit on contributions, allowing flexibility based on financial goals.

PRAN generation
Once the application form is reviewed for accuracy and submitted online, a Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN) is generated for the child.

Points to note
  • One can also choose to open the account and manage the investments from points of presence (PoP), such as major banks, India Post offices, and pension fund offices.
  • Once the minor turns 18, the account converts into a standard NPS account, enabling independent management.
