Now, vending machine for coins too

Coins of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 denominations would now be available through vending machines.

New Delhi: Coins of Re 1, Rs 2 and Rs 5 denominations would now be available through vending machines. The RBI has advised banks to install them to facilitate their distribution.
���The move is to facilitate the availability of coins for bank customers and common man,������ RBI regional director A Udgat said. RBI wants all banks to install such vending machines at important places where people can exchange currency notes for coins, he said. The state office of the central bank has started the facility where coins worth Rs 100 have been kept and can be exchanged by giving notes.
He said that both public and private sector banks, including State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank and ICICI Bank, have shown interest in the machine and PNB has already purchased a few vending machines. The vending machines will help people as well as banks save time, he added.
