MUMBAI: The Maharashtra government today called upon private companies to participate in its efforts in providing affordable housing to slum dwellers in the city.

The government was also willing to enact a legislation if required to boost the affordable housing in the city, Minister of State for Housing, Sachin Ahir said here.

"The alternatives for effective affordable housing are that the private players take up opportunity or the government intermediates to boost or the government come up with legislation for creation of affordable housing," Ahir said at a Real Estate Conclave organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) here.

The minister said that the government is also likely to amend the Township Act to create more residential space in the metropolis.

"We may amend the Township Act to create more residential space through satellite townships," he said.

Ahir said that the government has created single window clearance system for Slum Rehabilitation Authority projects in the city, adding "we have extended incentives in terms of FSI for parking facilities and Green solutions in the residential projects."
