Maharashtra government mulls forming committee on affordable housing
MUMBAI: Maharashtra government is contemplating to form a committee on affordable housing scheme in the state, on the lines of that at the Centre, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told the Legislative Council today.

Replying to a query raised by Lok Bharti Party legislator Kapil Patil, he said the committee would also look into the rates of flats, land acquisition norms and construction cost.

"There is a committee at the national level chaired by HDFC Chairman Deepak Parekh. The government is contemplating to form a similar committee at the state-level," Chavan added.

Patil said the MHADA lottery did not receive good response in May this year, as the rates of the flats were too high and beyond the reach of common man.
