Leonhardt, Winner memorabilia up for sale at Sotheby's
Sotheby's London will stage an exhibition of works of art and furniture from the collections of two prominent artists of the 20th century.
The Collection of Gustav Leonhardt from the Bartolotti House — a magnificent canal residence in Amsterdam — includes furniture, silver, ceramics, sculpture, books and Old Masters, all of them intended to recreate an 18th-century setting besides making a perfect backdrop for Leonhardt's music, once described as "a simple sound, a clean line and minimal ornamentation". As many as 671 lots from the musician's collection will be auctioned on April 29.
The 117 lots from the estate of the Late Michael Winner will be offered in the Collections sale on April 29. Elegant Georgian and Regency pieces furnished Michael Winner's home and its walls were adorned with tranquil Venetian Vedute and serene landscapes. An extensive display of photographs, a veritable who's who of silver screen greats encountered during his career, decked the walls of his own cinema room. The sale will also include a Spitting Image Puppet of Michael Winner proving that the film maker could always take a joke.
