NEW DELHI: The much-awaited Land Acquisition Bill may come up before the Union Cabinet next week with Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh pushing hard for it.

Rural Development Ministry has already sent a note to Cabinet Secretariat to include it as an agenda of the Cabinet's next meeting, a Government source said.

With the aim of seeking support for the bill from Cabinet colleagues, Ramesh has met his senior Cabinet colleagues including Pranab Mukherjee, Veerappa Moily, Ambika Soni, Sharad Pawar, A K Antony, P Chidambaram, Kishore Chandra Deo and Kapil Sibal.

If the bill gets the Cabinet clearance, it will be introduced in Parliament next week before the end of the Monsoon session.

Once it is introduced, it could be sent to the standing committee for its consideration.
