Kolkata's Experimenter art gallery staging Curators' Hub

KOLKATA: In continuation of Kolkata’s well-known contemporary art gallery Experimenter’s interest in critical curatorial practice, The Experimenter Curators' Hub 2012 will be held at Experimenter on July 27 and July 28, 2012 in Kolkata to discuss, debate and present the most contemporary thought behind curating exhibitions in today's context.

The Experimenter Curators Hub’s is being presented in association with Pro Helvetia – The Swiss Arts Council and is supported by The Goethe Institut and others.

"Curatorial practice in India is at a crucial juncture and it is important to talk about its current state and its future development, especially through conversations between these curators who are pushing the boundaries of contemporary art. The 2-day event will see a coming together of Indian and international curators, the visual arts community, critics, writers, thinkers, other curators, collectors, theorists and people interested in contemporary art," said Prateek Raja, Experimenter's director.

"The second edition of the Experimenter Curators Hub, spread over 2 days, will be dedicated to intense individual presentations by the 10 curators, describing their own practice and its development with specific focus on exhibitions curated in the last two years. At the end of everyday, will be one open session each where the presenters get into discussions and with the active participation of the audience, take the conversations productively forward," he added.

This year, the Experimenter Curators’ Hub is focusing on the various points of view of curators who straddle the contemporary art scenario through the multiple roles they work within. It is perhaps necessary to investigate the several positions that curators take and how their practice is individually and collectively influencing the art world.

The participating curators are Abhay Maskara, Dr. Annapurna Garimella, Aveek Sen,Diana Campbell, Dr. Inke Arns, Meera Menezes, Patrick Gosatti, Suman Gopinath, Sumesh Sharma and Zasha Colah and Susan Hapgood.
