Kolkata’s Aakriti Art Gallery to present show of over sixty drawings of eminent artist Ramkumar
Kolkata’s Aakriti Art Gallery is presenting a show of more than sixty drawings of the eminent artist Ramkumar from August 1-30, 2014, at the gallery premises.
The show is curated by poet and art-critic Prayag Shukla, a close associate of Ramkumar for five decades, who has written on Ramkumar in Hindi and English extensively. Ramkumar is known internationally for his wonderful, engaging and enchanting landscapes in luminous hues, and his paintings and drawings are in the collection of various museums and are with discerning art-collectors in India and abroad. Ramkumar is is held in very high esteem by critics and the art audiences at large.
This famed artist is from the generation of Husain, Raza, Gaitonde, Tyeb Mehta, and has been an intimate friend of all these artists. He is also a well known short-story writer in Hindi, and his stories are available in English translations, as well. Widely traveled in Europe, America, and Asia, his works have been exhibited in many countries.
The drawings, in fine lines, presented in the show are a sensitive charting of momentous happenings, and speak volumes for Ramkumar’s delicate rendering quality. These drawings take us into a memorable aesthetic journey through ‘wondrous paths, which can be seen, treaded and found only by the calibre of an artist like Ramkumar. The works engage our mind, as well as our hearts.
