A colonial treasure, an impressionist record-breaker and a modern masterpiece will lead the Australian paintings at Christie's London in on September 26, 2013.

John Glover's Ben Lomond from Mr Talbot's is one of Glover's great Tasmanian landscapes from his first years in Van Diemen's Land in the early 1830s. On long term loan to the National Gallery of Scotland since the 1980s, it comes to the market for the first time since its inclusion in Glover's London exhibition in 1835.
Next on the anvil is Frederick McCubbin's Bush Idyll is the last of his large bush narratives to remain in private hands. Rediscovered in the 1980s, it was sold for A$2.31 million at Christie's in 1996, setting the record price for any Australian painting at auction, a record it held for almost a decade.
Also going under the hammer is Fred Williams's Lysterfield, one of the artist's large landscapes painted just after the bushfires that threatened the Williams's home in 1968. Bought from Rudy Komon by Leopold de Rothschild in Sydney in early 1972, the painting, unseen for a generation, is being sold by the trustees of the late Leopold de Rothschild.
