I-T cracks down institutes, placement agencies

NEW DELHI: While the nation was getting into Independence Day celebrations, the Income Tax Department sleuths all over the country cracked down on coaching centres, placement agencies, air-services institutes and foreign placement agencies in Mumbai and the capital to nab tax evaders.

At least in nine places in these two cities the Income Tax Department sleuths swooped down as part of the on-going drive against tax evaders.

Meanwhile an official news release said that the ‘tax department has conducted surveys at nine premises’ in these two cities. A similar survey was conducted on August 9 as well.

“Based on the evidence collected during these surveys and subsequent investigations, tax evaders have admitted to evasion worth Rs 26.75 crore” said an official news release.

Meanwhile, further investigations are on to nab evaders, said sources.
