GHAZIABAD: Property owners in the city will have to shell out more from next financial year as Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam (GNN) has decided to increase the house tax by 10 per cent.

"The GNN in its Board meeting today unanimously passed a proposal to increase the house tax by 10 per cent from next financial year, starting April 2015," said BJP leader and Councillor Rajendra Tyagi.

He said a total of 45 proposals relating to several issues of public utility were discussed in the House.

Apart from this, GNN has also decided to take possession of 5,000 sq mtrs of its land which was previously allotted to Nipun Builders at Loni Road in Pasonda village for construction of housing project.

Tyagi also told that the House had a detailed discussion on parking and advertising issues.

The City Municipal Commissioner R K Singh and Mayor Telu Ram Kamboj gave a brief about the progress on the two issues to the Councillors.

BSP Councillor Sanjay Sharma said that proposal of GNN to enhance the house tax by 25 per cent was opposed by all BSP councilors.

Yesterday, the party had threatened protest if the increased tax was imposed on the public of 45 municipal wards only.

Today, the House also agreed to impose house tax on remaining 35 wards to broaden the tax base in the coming year.
