The GMR-backed Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltd’s (DIAL) plan to build 3,000 hotel rooms in accommodation-starved Delhi may not meet the next year’s Commonwealth Games’ deadline.

The GMR-backed Delhi International Airport Pvt Ltds (DIAL) plan to build 3,000 hotel rooms in accommodation-starved Delhi may not meet the next years Commonwealth Games deadline. Recently, DIAL awarded development rights for building up to 2,000 rooms in six hotels two each in budget, mid and up-market segments, to five bidders.

But aviation ministry and hospitality and aviation sector insiders say that hardly 500 to 700 rooms could actually be ready by 2010. Among the successful bidders are Accor, InterGlobe Hotels, Lemon Tree, Bird Group and Hyatt (R S Saraf Juniper Hotels).

In fact, Bird Group ED Ankur Bhatia said in a statement that the company will try to build the 210-room five star hotel by end-2010 while the Games would be held in October.
