Hiranandani considers appeal against High Court order

On wednesday, HC had restrained Hiranandani group from beginning any more constructions on its Powai land without court permission.

MUMBAI: Mumbai-based real estate developer Hiranandani Group is considering to file an appeal against the Bombay High Court order, which restrains him to develop further land parcel in city suburb Powai.

On Wednesday, while passing the order against the developer, division bench comprising chief justice Mohit Shah and Justice Roshan Dalvi had restrained Hiranandani group from beginning any more constructions on its Powai land without court permission.

"We don't agree with this verdict. We would like to file an SLP in Supreme Court, subject to counsel's advice. We are in talks with our counsel," said Niranjan Hiranandani.

Earlier, in January 2009, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority ( MMRDA) an urban development and planning body had claimed damages of Rs 1,993 crore from Hiranandani group for multiple violations.

The authority then revised the claim and reduced it to Rs 89 crore. But, later on the state allowed Hiranandani to go ahead with new constructions after depositing Rs 3 crore as penalty.

In September 2011, state government appointed arbitrator rejected the MMRDA's Rs 89.75-crore claim.
